A New Jerusalem Apartment Transformed into a Luxurious Vacation Home for Unforgettable Family Gatherings
An American family with four children purchased an apartment in the prestigious Talbieh neighborhood of Jerusalem. They aimed to transform it into a vacation home capable of hosting many guests for family gatherings and holiday celebrations. Due to the distance, the entire process was managed remotely by the interior designer Shir Dowek, ensuring every detail was perfect — down to the furnishings, linens, and even utensils.
Seeking timeless luxury, the design process utilized the finest materials and craftsmen in Israel: natural marble and custom-cut stone, bespoke carpentry, designer lighting fixtures, and unique materials like resin, chosen to give the bathrooms a sleek and pristine aesthetic.
To complement the luxurious materials throughout the apartment, the flooring was specifically selected to combine elegance, warmth, and technical excellence. The Italian wood floor Listone Giordano — Grigio Bretone oak from the Classica collection — adds a refined, timeless aesthetic while delivering superb stability and quality.
Its soft grey-toned natural finish enhances the inviting atmosphere of the home, while the sophisticated herringbone layout ties together the various spaces seamlessly. This choice reinforces the sense of continuity and understated luxury throughout the apartment.
At the heart of the 165 m² apartment lies a spacious and inviting 60 m² public area, thoughtfully designed to be the focal point of family gatherings. This open-concept space seamlessly integrates the living room, kitchen, dining area, and a generously sized guest bathroom. To maintain the flow and emphasize the communal nature of the space, zero-line doors were installed for all rooms, effectively blending entryways into the background.

The kitchen was equipped to handle large events with ease. A four-meter island serves as both a functional workspace and a gathering spot for casual conversations, while a Sub-Zero refrigerator and a large wine fridge ensure ample storage for fresh ingredients and beverages.
Capitalizing on the apartment’s prime location overlooking a beautiful grove, the design incorporated floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the home. This not only floods the space with natural light but also creates a stunning visual connection with the surrounding nature, beginning right from the entryway. The lighting design was meticulously planned to achieve perfect harmony between natural and artificial light, enhancing the ambiance and adapting to different times of day and occasion.
