A loft suspended between light and sea in Sestri Levante
Suspended between the Gulf of Tigullio and the Bay of Silence, Sestri Levante is one of those places that seem to exist in a suspended dimension, where water and light shape ever-changing natural architectures. It is from this luminous, shifting, Mediterranean essence that the project by Andrea Gastaldi Architetto takes form: the renovation of a sea-facing loft, designed to create an authentic dialogue between living space and landscape.
The intervention arises from a complex starting condition, characterized by small openings and fragmented natural light. The design reimagined the lighting system, enlarging windows and adding new skylights so that light itself becomes the central element of the project, creating a perceptual continuum between interior and exterior.
The conceptual and sensory heart of the intervention is the Désir Civita oak parquet from the Atelier Listone Giordano collection, chosen not only for its aesthetic value but as a narrative element capable of translating the soul of the place into material form. Its warm and vibrant texture recalls the decks of sailing boats: walking on these planks evokes the sensation of being on a ship’s deck, suspended between land and sea, between stillness and movement. Every plank, every grain of the wood tells a story of continuity and authenticity. The precise and calibrated installation becomes a poetic gesture: creating a visual rhythm that follows, enhances, and amplifies the light.
The parquet becomes a mediator between architecture and nature, offering a sensory experience that evokes contact with a living material. The interior layout prioritizes visual continuity: the living area, kitchen, and lounge merge into a single open space, articulated by exposed beams and the harmonious dialogue between white surfaces and natural wood, in a subtle reference to the marine world.

In this project, light is not merely a functional element but a silent protagonist: it shapes, flows, and sculpts. The Listone Giordano wood, with its narrative strength and natural elegance, becomes the canvas upon which light rests, offering a living experience that is simultaneously visual, tactile, and poetic. A home that breathes with the sea, designed for those who seek in architecture not just a place to live, but a way to listen to the landscape.
