A dive into the Belle Époque in the contemporary heart of Milan

The apartment, designed by architect Virginia Ministeri and interior designer Alessandro Spagliardi of Studio Place, is located in Milan, in the university district of Bocconi.

The building hosting the project stands in an urban context characterized by recent architecture and explicitly contemporary profiles – dating back to the early 20th century – and takes us on a journey back in time, evoking the refined atmosphere of the Belle Époque.

The client’s requests were clear: to create a spacious living area, flowing seamlessly from the entrance, culminating in the kitchen, conceived as a natural extension of the main space.

The parquet flooring enhances this sensation, offering a unique tactile comfort thanks to the thermal treatment that brings out its physical and color characteristics. Its layout naturally guides the flow of the apartment, like a runway leading to the circulation areas and the sleeping quarters.

For the flooring, Desir by Listone Giordano was chosen – a collection that combines artisanal tradition with technological innovation. Its deep grains and the warm texture of natural wood harmonize perfectly with the materiality of the walls and the understated elegance of the furnishings, helping to create a welcoming and sophisticated atmosphere. Choosing Desir underscores the project’s attention to detail and its aim to seamlessly combine aesthetics with residential well-being.

The textural uniformity of the parquet is interrupted only in the service areas, then returns to take center stage in the bedrooms, where the tones of the furnishings establish an elegant and restrained language. In the master bedroom, colors gradually become warmer and more structured, culminating in the bathroom, where wood once again becomes the dominant and defining element.

The result is an interior that embodies a perfect synthesis between the classic character of the building and the contemporary nature of the intervention: a balanced dialogue between traditional materials and metropolitan sensibilities, capable of conveying a sense of intimacy and timeless modernity.
